As the title says, looking for a good primer and screed to go over quite shiny ceramic tiles. The new flooring will be loose laid cushionfloor. Cheers

Also used 131 primer on tiles but you end up with it stuck to your feet and knees when it peels off, what about that rough feeling primer Matt showed us on course didn't he say that was good for ceramics I may be wrong I've even forgot what it was called  but it was a grey colour and I'm sure it was a mapei one

Green bag and 114 used to be able to be used over ceramics without priming. Don't know if you still can though.
I used 131 and 700 over some recently.

Mapei prim grip is the grey primer. Perfect for using over ceramics.

Be careful of latex compounds that say they can go over ceramics with no primer. they will 99% of the time be a very poor strength compound. Only really suitable for domestic loose lay vinyl.

Does any manufacturer actually advise the use or even guarantee their products over ceramics?

I think they do as long as the preparation is right. I was advised by Ball some time ago about over polished porcelain. It was to abrade the surface first, neat 131 and screed.

be careful abrading. If you cut through the finish the tile will be effected by moister in the compounds. Also dont forget that to cut a tile you score it.

Any reason the tiles can't be lifted? That's usually the best option.

Yeah the kitchen is on top of the tiles and all the trim and doors is cut to the tiles. Would like to lift but could be more hassle than its worth, after all it's only a loose lay cushionfloor it's going down.
    Thanks again :D

Porcelain tiles are usually porcelain all the way through or at least the top 5mm or so and extremely dense, generally non porous and very very hard. The problem with abrading them is it usually takes diamond abrasion just to spoil the polished surface.

Although you can score and snap a porcelain tile like a ceramic one quite often you have to cut and inch or so from each end with a diamond saw first or it will break outwith the score when you try to snap it.

Im talking ceramics mate, sorry if i have confused?

What i will say is i would advice not to abrade any tiles as most floorlayers who say fits only LVT may not know the difference between porcelain and ceramic or marble etc. So i tend to advice to not abraid any of them.

ANYWAY, my weak point in flooring is the above subject. I can tell you how to bond to the above product but i have just learnt of you a few pointers. Thanks

Wheres that THANKS button ????
