I recently did my kitchen floor, primed then used ardex k11, used correct mix of water. Everything looked good but after2 days I can now see quite a lot of these small cracks. Why?

K11 is notorious for it mate. Are the cracks solid or loose?

could be curing too quick with a high average temp in house?
or is it a gradual cracking?

I've never had problems with k11? Was your subfloor weak?

The original subfloor was chipboard. I'd since laid camaro on top and gone on top of that!

K11 shouldn't be used on wooden/ chipboard floors as it's not flexible

Shouldn't be doing that mate going over chip board subfloor with k11 on top of a load of layers . Should of just plywooded over it all if the uplift was not practical

wrong screed for that job, you need fibre reinforced like stopgap 700. best bet would be to rip the lot out before you go any further.

I wouldn't of screeded at all mate.
would've just ply' over it if I couldn't be arsed lifting it.

no point in flaming the lad
none of us knew it all from the start
learn from the mistake and move on
    simple as that

@pf&spacey. What is the sole reason it cracked though. The chipboard or because the camaro was still down cos I've laid on top of lvt before and no cracks.

basically comes down to structural movement mate.
there's too much movement in a chipboard floor for a std screed to handle. Hence why a fibre reinforced screed is the only viable option as it can soak up movement to a much bigger degree.

And I did say in another post recently that I've only just started screeding so it's just a earning curve with what I can and cant do. Certainly better that I make the mistakes while I practice in my own kitchen. Thanks for all the positive feed back

Thanks coole. I do know about screeds for that purpose but I naively thought it would be ok as the camaro was down sound on it.

Always go back to the original subfloor, never go over old materials if it was plyed under the camaro fibreplan would of worked after ripping up the camaro, but if no ply then no latex, as you can't screed direct to chipboard
