Hi fellas I have a customer who has an old Parquet flooring who does not want me to sand and seal but now wants to overlay with engineered. I have told him that it not at all advised to overlay the parquet to the best of my knowledge. Can anyone on here tell me the technical reason so I can explain to my customer or is there anyway I can get over it apart from lifting all the parquet. cheers
are you floating the eng if so is the parquet solid or loose ,if floated on underlay and subfloor is sound i dont see a problem, but i would explain this to him and give him the choice and get him to sign so.
I don't see a problem either if floating. I doubt bonding down is an option as adhesive would be unlikely grip the existing finish in the long term.
Just taken a climate and moisture test floor is reading 10.1 %wme which is about acceptable for oak but still unsure if I can safely float this without any problems. Has anyone on here ever done it
Done it before, no problems just make sure you use an underlay without a built in DPM otherwise the blocks will sweat, absorb moisture, expand then lift causing a nice mini mountain under the engineered.
We use to put down paper felt before fitting over, as people have said you can get away with it but once you cover it any future problems your stuffed. Not a stable sub floor is it. Look out for any hot water pipes, they will definatly bring the floor up if you cover it.
