I have been using the one I got from Karndean years ago. The economy one. It costs about £16.50 . Done a good job but when I was on the floorskills course. Matt has the pajarito combi scriber. It's it's a lot better to use. More solid. so thought I'd buy one. They are £52.50 in the Sweeney Todd book. But found it online but not sure it's the real one as its half the cost. http://www.flooringequipmentdirect.co.uk/xcart/product.php?productid=365&cat=9&page=1
Thats pants that one is those of us professionals use this one yes its dear but will last a life time http://www.floormart.co.uk/products/pajarito-404-Combination-Scriber-%26-Cutter-.html I've had mine must be 20+ years and now gonna get a new one for the boy it is the rolls royce of combi scribes IMO. The Crain hinge scribe is also very good heavy duty and robust I have one of those to very very good has its limitations but if like me you have big hands then it feels better than those piddly little things. http://www.floormart.co.uk/products/Crain-118-Hinge-Scriber-.html
I've had a few scribers buti find the Crain hinge scribber very good it's solid and short so works well if under and over scribbing into say a 4 inch wide knight tile border
Yes Daz it does. It does everthing the one you were looking at only diff the price and build quality. The one you're looking at banged out of china by the thousands, hence the price an most likely poor build quality an will last may be 2 years light use. The Pajarito 404 on the other hand outstanding build quality second to none crafted from the finest qaulity metals, hence the price an will most definetly out live you, I still have my grandfathers in the shed kept wrapped in an oily rag in its origional box. But I'll leave the choice upto you just remember the quality of some of our flooring goods coming out of china at the moment.
The one I'm looking at is the pajarito 421 and is £65 on here http://www.floormart.co.uk/products/pajarito-421-Combination-Scriber-&-Cutter-.html
Yeah thas probably their origional check the screw which holds blade and pins, in this link its brass in the other its silver cheapo soft metal probably copy of Pajarito one.
I have a pajarito 401 b scriber and I can totally agree about the quality. Bought mine about 30 years ago and it is still as good as new !! Mind you it is sometimes a bit big to get into small areas so I will probably get the smaller combination scribe , but it will be a pajarito . Phil
Good on ya Phil, it can be a bit on the big side sometimes I do have a smaller Pajarito one solid brass not even sure if its still done but its only 3 inches long again handed down to me by my grandfather. An I bet its scribed enough seems that would be equal in distance of say to the moon and back lol.
Just been trying to change it into the reversible position. Because in some areas like around a bullnose it has to be reversed Is this the right position ?
