I have just bought a house and the living/ dining room has parquet flooring,

I'm planning on sanding it myself but I want to stain it grey as well, any advise on this would be great!

    Thanks!!

    Hi and welcome.
    Where are based?
You'll need a drum sander an edger also an orbital hand sander.
Do you know what's on the floor already?

ok, once you've hired all the required equipment, you'll need to start with the drum sander, do it on 45 degree, you may be able to start on a 50 grit if this isn't taking it off then use a 36grit then a 50 grit. Do half the room then turn around and do the other half making sure cross over where you finish. after your 50 then do the edges with a 50 disc then a 80.
Then do the main area with an 80 then 100. Edges next with 100.
Once done use your orbital random hand sander with an 80 grit and blend the edge with main floor.
    Vacuum between stages.
Use your desired stain and put that on as specified on tin.
Once dried as per tin you can then seal it with your lacquer leave to dry overnight abrade the whole floor with hand sander on 120 grit, vacuum then seal, leave that to dry perhaps 2 hours or so then apply last coat. Now leave for 3 days to cure before furniture goes on it..
Or just get someone to do it for you, which probably would be easier?

I'm with Mario on this one, get someone in who does this for a living. At least if they get it wrong you have recourse for action. If you mess it up, you've just got an expensive mess on your hands!

How grey do you want the floor?Herring Bone Blocks are difficult to stain as keeping a wet edge is near impossible.Grey oil or hard wax oil may be a better process but the other guys nailed it seek professional help this is not an easy sand and seal.Stain will show every machine mark or paper scratch after your belt sanding use a multi disc.Good luck.
