Hi everyone, I've fitted carpets since leaving school in the seventies. Not much I haven't learned there, domestic and contract, border work, natural flooring etc. and working at the highest level most of the time. I am about to open a retail shop and have come here to get up to date with sub floor prep, Amtico, Karndean and other hard floors with a view to selling them as my experience with industrial flooring has been limited. Hope to learn from you experts.
That's probably a good idea. A guy in his mid fifties though might look a bit sad in a workshop being shown how to manually lay floors, lol. Or are there courses aimed at retail suppliers too that are information based?
welcome! i have recently done subfloor prep, lvt click and lvt level 2 at floorskills and yes there very hands on regarding fitting but it is a big help when in a retail situation to know how its fitted. and dont worry abouut being in your mid fifties and looking silly i am 28 and very new to the flooring trade, i was very worried about going on a course and actually being on a course with people like yourself and me being such a novice. but there is young and older guys on these courses and would highly recomend them
Hi mate where about in the toon you from/ where your shop ? I live in Newcastle & install Karndean & amtico every day & happy to give you a few pointers in person if you like ? Oh & welcome to the forum mate
Hi Spacey, I've been reading a lot here today and I can observe that you know your trade really well, as I do mine. I grew up in Wallsend and now live in Tynemouth. What about you? I haven't actually opened the shop yet. I could tell you where it will be, but then I would have to shoot you. You know how it is in the toon, lol.
Ha ha Wallsend lad like you probably do own a gun then lol ! I live in Longbenton mate Gosy end A lot of my work is in Gosforth but I do work in your neck of the woods to. If your after Accounts for your shop with Amtico or Karndean you have to be very selective about your shop location they don't hand out retail accounts willy nilly !
Even if I can't get an Amtico account, I will be supplying similar products, so when I get the lease sorted I'll be in touch. Do you sub contract to any local shops?
I sub for builders & kitchen company & a couple of contractors but mostly do my own work but I'll sub for any one who wants a job done right ;o)
