Bit pee'd off. Here is the situation. New training center is how it suggests 'new'. It was built christmas time. Someone moved into our unit temporary for a couple of months and BT installed a phone line. So we are now in and i ring BT to turn phone socket and internet on. But they say they have to send someone to connect phone line? well it has a brand new phone line and socket on the wall with a phone number printed on it. So why cant they activate this? They say tech person needs to connect. Nearest date is 17th July ! UMMM.... hello we are a business and need phone line working. Other issue is i don't have mobile signal at unit (orange your crap) and also the FloorSkills phone number is a internet number so i need internet connection (again i did this so it would ring my phone if i was not in office) I had 22 missed calls the other day and 6 today on FloorSkills line i will presume are people trying to book courses. Im loosing out on business. So to the question - Can another phone provider connect the phone line? can i go with someone else other that BT ? Its a BT line only in area but can i pay someone else?
already tried them mate as i have them at home. No phone line mate. They dont do places in middle of no where LOL. Even worse is the BT broadband. I ordered the 40 meg speed. When i paid for my order it said " you will get max 3.5 meg" So i questioned it and was told "even tho im paying for a 40 meg connection the phone lines down the street can only give 3.5 meg" So WTF am i paying for 40 meg for then , put me on the lower package EVERYTHING i do is hard work. 1 step forward and about 100 backwards.
I may be wrong ( it did happen once before ) but I think bt own the line into property's but other providers rent sections of that line so aslong as there is no out standing debts with bt you should be able to switch to anyother provider we did it at home from bt to sky land line with a couple of phone calls no one came out at all
Yeah I switched my bt line to plusnet but it did take 2 weeks for them to activate the line. Sorted out the broadband in 3 days tho?
What about getting something where the landline callers are diverted to your mobile? vodafone do that but im not sure if you have to have a working phone line for that to work?
No matter who you choose as your provider it's BT that have to connect the phone. Other companies rent off BT and if you ever have any kind of line fault they go through BT anyway. Not good news I'm afraid but BT don't give a toss unfortunately. Your internet can be sorted faster than your telephone connection which is totally ridiculous given that it uses the same line anyway. Your broadband package might say "up to 40 meg" but is always dependent on the quality of line and your proximity to the nearest telephone exchange. Incidentally, 40meg is an unusual figure for any service provider to quote.
vito has answered what i thought. Its the connection bit. I still dont understand the connection bit as brand new line (3 months old into building) and was working up to a few weeks ago. But they say it needs engineer to reconnect. Well why disconnect it then! Simply stop out going calls down it. O and just to add, i tried to get it connected 2 weeks ago so its takes BT 4 weeks / 1 month to connect a business line. The bigger pee take is they have had two different engineers down the estate ( 9 units) over last week connecting there phones. So why not do the extra one while your there! Both the other chaps took under 15 minutes from drive in to drive out. I guess lads this is the difference with employed staff and self employed or a company whos staff simply dont know how to arrange work in the same area. Me or you would of done the 15 minute or even 1 hour job next door while you was in the area. Merit, i tried divert and internet to phone but poor signal.
BT don't own everything they only have a 42% stake in the telecoms market VM are next with a 38% stake in the telecoms market and then the other offenders, BT can not own everything because in the interest of fair trading and monopolies and mergers that would be unfair and would result in price fixing not to mention its against the laws of buisness and commerce. Check Offtel its all on there. There is nothing to connect if you already have a line in to the building, the only thing that would need connecting is internet if you don't already have it. If you plug a phone in is there a tone.... Most likely all they have to do is plug you in at the exchange end as that would be the end thats been disconected. Remember we are in the holiday season so may be they are short staffed at the moment. Its highly unlikly that they have pulled the wires from the terminal box they never do that any more its more or less computer controlled now so all they have to do is push a button. Think of it like this if you don't pay your bill what do they do they stop out going calls so you can only recieve and make emergency calls and if you continue to avoid your bill they cut you off at their end the exchange they don't need to come to your house or premises any more its that simple. Sounds to me like they are making a montain out of a mole hill. Did you get them to short list you for a cancelation slot worth a try just incase someone cancels.
Have you tried talk talk, all you need is a bt socket.Couldn't be bothered to read the other posts'. So excuse me if someone mentioned them, cheap as chips aswell
talk talk for all their 'talk' are complete sh15e they have no customer service.... at all if something breaks down, well your screwed till god sorts it and heaven forbid if you try and cancel on them!
Talk Talk are a very poor company. There's a good reason why their packages are cheap, they're always experiencing dropouts. As my IT business picked up I was seeing more and more problems directly associated with them, avoid like the plague.
Trust me then to go and choose some one rubbish, my mate has used them for 2/3 years without a prob thats why I went for them. Never mind I'll f@@@ em off if need be.
There's always exceptions to the rule. The problem with TalkTalk is that they set the Downstream connection too high to try and impress customers with claims of high speed internet and the telephone lines just couldn't handle it. I lost count of the number of times I had to contact them for customers to get them to lower it. Almost every time it cured their problem of continuous dropouts. In saying that I've used Bethere Broadband for years, not the cheapest but they turn a blind eye to things that others like Sky and BT don't, and when I moved 4 years ago I had the same problem, infrequent dropouts which they blamed BT for and BT blamed them etc, all the engineers said it was a line fault and I had to have this checked and that checked blah blah, I told them all along to just lower my connection speed a little and eventually they tried it just to appease me and low and behold my problems were magically cured. Fibre optics will eventually make it all immaterial anyway, thank God.
